One of the main reasons why most Estate and Letting Agents will always be employed is the fact they can’t or won’t trust their team.
I don’t necessarily mean, you think they have their hand in the till so you can’t trust them with money, although that does happen. I mean the fact you can’t trust them to do a good job in their role.
If you don’t trust your team then why are you employing them?
Seriously, if you employ someone to do certain things but don’t trust them to do those things, then you messed up along the way at some point.
Either the recruitment, the interview, lack of training and development, the poor culture in the business, poor management, even worse leadership, no performance management, keeping them when you shouldn’t – Some where you messed up.
By the way I’m not blaming you, I get it why you might not trust your team:
– They make mistakes, so you want to take over
– You think they will ask for a pay rise if they have more responsibility
– They might lose clients
– They might get too big for their boots
All the above and many more, “might” happen… BUT then again it might not.
If you don’t trust then you will never grow, individually and neither will your company.
People will make mistakes, they will screw up, but if you recruited well and did all the other things I mention, then the person will acknowledge their mistakes and look to rectify them, which as a leader, is what you want.
If nothing else, learn to trust more in 2022 and become a leader and “true” business owner.
It’s not easy, but so worth it!
